Write down the exact target
Record your community college, destination campus, exact major and degree, and intended entry term. Keep a separate checklist for each target; similarly named majors can have different preparation requirements.
Open the destination's transfer information and create or update your UC TAP record. UC describes TAP as a tool for tracking progress toward minimum transfer requirements, and it is also used for TAG applications.
Check the agreement and its academic year
Find the ASSIST agreement for your college, campus, and major. Record the academic year and save its source link. Publication timing varies by institution, so an available older agreement is not proof that next year's requirements are unchanged.
Read notes and course-series alternatives, not just matching course names. If a course says “no course articulated,” ask your counselor or the institution how to proceed; do not treat it as an automatic waiver or invent an equivalent.
Keep major preparation and GE separate
Major preparation, general education, and UC admission minimums are different checks. A major-prep progress bar does not establish that you have met every transfer requirement.
UC identifies Cal-GETC as the general education pattern for students entering a California community college in fall 2025 or later. Cal-GETC is not itself a UC admission requirement. Ask your counselor which GE pattern and catalog rights apply to you, especially if you enrolled earlier or had a break in attendance.
Keep a course record you can verify
For each course, record the college, code, term, units, grade if available, and whether it is completed, in progress, or planned. Keep exam credit and courses from other colleges visible for review instead of assuming they satisfy a particular requirement.
California's Common Course Numbering rollout can change the code you see. Check your college's current information when an old plan and a current course listing use different codes; a similar title alone is not evidence of equivalence.
Bring the unresolved questions to a counselor
Before registering, confirm prerequisites and actual course availability with your college. Bring your plan, source agreements, and a short list of questions:
- Which remaining courses should I prioritize for this campus and major?
- Does my GE pattern, exam credit, or coursework from another college need a separate review?
- What should I reconsider if a planned course is unavailable or I drop it?
- Which application and campus-specific deadlines apply to my entry term?
